Matthews was the first pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He won the Calder Memorial Trophy as NHL Rookie of the Year in 2017. He was a top-ten scorer in four seasons and led the league in goals twice. He was a six-time All-Star and received the Hart Trophy as league MVP and the Ted Lindsay Award as Most Outstanding Player, as voted by his peers.
