Ovechkin was the first pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and was awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy as Rookie of the Year. He has won the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL's top scorer, on nine occasions - an NHL record - the Art Ross Trophy for most points scored, the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league's best player on three occasions, and the Lester B. Pearson/Ted Lindsay Award as the league's best player. Pearson/Ted Lindsay Award as best player, as voted by the NHL Players' Association, three times. In 2018, Ovechkin won the Stanley Cup for the first time and was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy for Most Valuable Player. Second only to Wayne Gretzky for all-time goals, Ovechkin also holds numerous records, including most power-play goals, most goals in away games, most overtime goals, most 40-goal seasons and most goals with the same team in NHL history. He is only the third player in NHL history to score 800 regular-season goals.
