As has been the case for the past several years, the Donruss 2022 base set has several different sections. The checklist starts with the usual 30 Diamond Kings. They are followed by 50 Rookies, which showcase some of the best first-year players. The base game and the 1988 Retro subset bring the total to 280 cards.

All base cards have 20 total parallels across all configurations and deck types. Holo Blue, which is exclusive to hobby packs, is one per pack, or 24 per box. Collectors can also expect four Independence Day parallels and one Liberty parallel per hobby box.

Whammy returns as a hit in the series. These cards rely on cartoon style illustrations to showcase the renowned superstars.

Other inserts include Rated Prospects, Dominator, Elite Series and The Hit List.
The Signature Series is back. They are part of four different autograph sets on the checklist. The others include Superstar Scribbles, Classics Autographs and Monikers.
The retro 1988 materials offer a throwback with their design. Nearly 100 players have samples in this set.
Two baseball personalities, the famed San Diego Chicken and Domingo Ayala, are back for another year in the Donruss 2022. For The Chicken, this includes a Contenders-themed autograph.
