2023-24 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey arrives on the ice with new content and format changes. Of course, the series includes the upcoming Young Guns series of beginner cards.
According to UD, "For the first time in over 20 years, the configuration of our flagship Upper Deck series will be refreshed and include notable changes to deliver an even more engaging collecting experience.
This includes an updated Hobby format with 12 cards per pack and 12 packs per box (144 cards in total) to replace the eight cards per pack and 24 packs per box (192 cards in total). Each pack now features an average of three inserts instead of one.
The Young Guns and UD Canvas brands are at the same rate per Hobby box, still averaging six Young Guns cards and four UD Canvas cards, despite the new pack ratings.
Upper Deck has also noted that the same "refresh" applies to 2023-24 Upper Deck Series 2 Hockey and 2023-24 Upper Deck Extended Series Hockey.
2023-24 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey UD Canvas
From now on, 2023-24 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey provides 120 additional cards in the UD Canvas range (1:24 packs). As is normally the case, UD Canvas Young Guns cards (1:24 packs) are included in the set.
Parallels include unique printing plates and enthusiast-only black & white versions (Base - 1:48 packs; Young Guns - 1:144 packs).
There are also limited UD Canvas Signatures cards that are hand-signed and numbered.

Among the many 2023-24 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey inserts, collectors will find returning favorites, updated insert lines and brand-new themed sets.
On the debut side, 200' x 85' (1:6 packs) nods to the rink while celebrating top stars and rookies. Be on the lookout for the one-of-a-kind black version.

The Special Edition (1:5 packs) opts for an ornate style and the Star Zone (1:7 packs) sticks to veterans. Gold parallels are limited to 50 copies.

As for the more familiar inserts, Dazzlers is back for another year. These include the Pink Edition (1:144 packs). Seasoned stars are featured first, while Series 2 offers rookie content.

The continuity approach is the same for the honor roll (1:3 packs), covering veterans in Series 1 and adding rookies in the Series 2 insert. Gold parallels are available in 25 copies only.

Population Count is another returning option. Although the design still resembles that of an engraved card, this time the cards are printed on an acetate substrate. The 30-card set again offers staggered print runs of 1,000 or less.
