2024 Upper Deck Goodwin Champions remains eclectic. But as with the 2023, much of this eclecticism is contained in a continuing evolution towards the incorporation of other UD brands into the checklist. So, not only is it multi-sport (with a healthy dose of history and pop culture), but it includes elements of some of the company's most familiar lines.
The basic set includes 100 standard cards. Athletes aren't just players of baseball, basketball or other recreational sports. Runners, swimmers and even pickleball players are included. Goodwin Champions also incorporates other celebrities and pop culture personalities.
All other packs have a high number of Splash of Color. With 50 cards available, the complete base set has 150 cards.
Until recently, Goodwin Champions had an extensive list of mini-parallels. This has changed with the evolution of the brands. Brilliant versions of the first 100 cards are now available in 1:3 hobby packs. The 150 cards also benefit from a printing plate.
Goodwin Platinum (1:5 packs) gives the cards a chrome treatment. Additional colors and patterns are as follows:
- Rainbow - 1:8 packs
- Red - 1:30 packs
- Blue - 1:45 packs
- Green - 1:90 packs
- Orange Prism - /349
- Rainbow Terrazzo - /249
- Cosmic - /199
- Tortoise Shell - /149
- Sky - /99
- Aquamarine - /75
- Purple Pulsar - /23
- Green Wave - /10
- Golden Treasures - 1/1
Finally, Splash of Color cards are 3D lenticular cards. They are available in three rarity levels ranging from 1:50 hobby packs to 1:1400. Some of these cards are also part of the UD Bounty program. Those who complete the set and register it may be eligible for exclusive cards not available in the packs.
Autographs and Memorabilia Cards
Goodwin autographs have been a staple of the series since Upper Deck began with the brand over a decade ago. Collectors will find signatures on the card and plenty of overlap with the basic set as far as subjects are concerned. Standard autographs are 1:75 hobby packs with Horizontal (1:240 packs), Inscriptions (1:2,000 packs) and Dual Autographs (/10) also available.
Splash of Color autographs are rare (1:1,900 packs).
Goodwin Memorabilia (1:180 packs) and Splash of Color Memorabilia (1:360 packs) take a similar approach, but with samples instead of signatures.
Goudey autographs (1:300 packs) are back for another year. The biggest names can be found in Goudey Sport Royalty autographs (1:9,000 packs) and Sport Royalty souvenirs (1:2,400 packs).
The 2024 Upper Deck Goodwin Champions checklist is rounded out by Genuine SP Retro Football Autos 2000 and Genuine SP Retro Baseball Autos Future Watch 2001. Both series are produced in editions of 299.
History plays a part in Goodwin's memorabilia in a number of ways. These include Museum Collection World War II Uniform Button Relics (packs of 1:2,400), 1924 United States Currency Relics (packs of 1:4,800), Birth Year Quad Coinage (/50) and Alaska Joins the Union: 65th Anniversary Gold Nugget Relics (/20).
Exquisite Black Diamonds
Two of Upper Deck's high-end brands appear in the 2024 Upper Deck Goodwin Champions.
The first is the Exquisite collection, whose standard inserts are numbered 99 or, for rookies, 149.
Rookie Exquisite Autos and Patch Autos have 99 copies each plus Gold Spectrum (/10) and Black (1/1) parallels. Veteran Autos go straight to Gold Spectrum (/10) and Black (1/1) versions.
A new assortment of Exquisite Collection Signature Kicks is on the checklist. These shoes combine an autograph with pieces of sports footwear similar to those worn by the athlete in question (but not actually worn by the athlete).
Then there's Black Diamond. Standard inserts and Rookie Gems are both numbered to 349 and have red (/100) and green (/10) parallels. Selected cards also feature autographs. Diamond Relics for both series are numbered to 99 each and contain from one to four diamonds, depending on the athlete. Diamond Relics cards are available in a single run alongside Pure Black cards.
Other gems are available in Gemography, Band of Color (/20) and Band of Color Rookies (/24).
Young Guns and Additional Inserts
Upper Deck's flagship line gets a multi-sport treatment in 2024 Goodwin Champions in the form of Young Guns (1:3 packs). Clear Cut parallels made with acetate are 1:240 packs. Young Guns also have printing plates.
It wouldn't be a modern Goodwin series without a series of manufactured patch cards. This year, the product moves away from nature and turns to books. Literary Classic patches are available in five rarity levels, which makes building a set challenging.
