Just as it did with baseball cards in 1989, Upper Deck's debut on the ice took the quality of field hockey cards to a new level.
It didn't help that the checklist was filled with cards from Hall of Famers and future Hall of Famers.
1990-91 Upper Deck Hockey Set Details
The 1990-91 Upper Deck Hockey set has 550 cards in total, divided into two sets. The first 400 are considered the Low Series and the last 150 are the High Series. The two sets come in separate boxes, although the High Series packs contain a mix of all 550 cards.
The design brings a glossy look to field hockey. The cards have white borders that are complemented by a marble frame colored to match the player's team. The crisp photographs make the cards stand out, especially when compared to the drab images used on many O-Pee-Chee and Topps sets in the years before Upper Deck debuted.
